I just added a bit of cayenne for heat and followed the recipe. Didn't bother with the mayonnaise. I made my own buttermilk dressing. Yum! Thanks Guy:) The best 03/06/2008 at 11:55am User: Cindy from Dunedin, FL User Rating: My husband and I used to get beer battered onion rings at a restaurant that we adored, then the place shut down. When I saw this recipe, I had to try it. And oh my, they were as good if not better. I did however add an egg, 1 tsp. baking powder and some hot sauce and they were fabulous. Thanks Guy for a great recipe. Crunchy and Tasty Onion Rings 03/05/2008 at 08:20am User: Robin from Palmetto, FL User Rating: These onion rings turned out perfect! Very crunchy with no hint of sogginess even after they had been out of the grease for a while. WOW! These are FANTASTIC!!! 02/29/2008 at 12:23pm User: Anonymous User Rating: My husband made these last night and the were incredible! The only change made was that he added cayenne pepper to the batter. This recipe is an absolute keeper! BEST BATTERED 02/27/2008 at 10:05pm User: laurie from KAYSVILLE, UT User Rating: BEST BATTERED/TRIED LOTS OF DIFFERENT BATTERS THIS IS BEST #1 IN MY BOOK. ADD A LITTLE MORE SPICES TO THE BATTERED FOR CERTAIN FOODS. #1 STEP IS SOAK IT IN BUTTERMILK NO MATTER WHAT. TRY SHRIMP,DIFFERENT VEG'S, EVERY THING WAS BETTER IS SOAK IN BUTTERMILK BEFORE. THIS IS ONLY REICPE IS USED NOW. Great recipe! 02/10/2008 at 06:07pm User: Kristi from Malvern, AR User Rating: Very easy to prepare and the onion rings looked great and tasted excellent! Words can't describe them... 02/04/2008 at 08:09pm User: LISA from Jacksonville, FL User Rating: Never had anything so good - super bowl snacks/goodies/etc... were all left aside as guests ate about 5 lbs of these along with the absolute perfect combination of the dip included in this recipe. Simply Heaven 01/19/2008 at 09:24pm User: Brenda from Tulsa, OK User Rating: Made these for the first time today. Huge hit with 3 boys and hubby. Crunchier than any rings ever and the onion stays put in the batter when you bite them. Loved it!!! 01/13/2008 at 11:39pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Once you get the hang of it its super easy, Husband couldn't get enough of them and the dipping sauce. BAD Flavor 01/04/2008 at 03:43pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I did not like these. Terrible flavor. Big crunch, BAD Flavor! Best Onion Rings Ever 12/23/2007 at 08:59pm User: Dwayne from Munford, TN User Rating: Made these with my kids tonight. No doubt, the best onion rings we've ever had. So light and crunchy, you could hear them eating them across the room. Some foods from scratch are not worth the extra effort, but I would highly recommend this recipe to everyone. My tip- add some garlic powder, salt and pepper to the batter, and think about increasing the oil temperature to 375 or 400 F. Beer Better Onion Rings 12/12/2007 at 10:55pm User: George from Longview, WA User Rating: After running the recipe through as directed, decided to kick it up a notch! Added about 3 tsp of Cholula to the beer batter. Also a half teaspoon of Johnnie's Seasoning Salt. My loyal test subjects liked the second version batter better. But the original is still better than ANY fast food place! the best we have ever had... 11/09/2007 at 07:09pm User: Anonymous User Rating: OMGSH i just made this for my family and EVERYONE loved loved loved them! They looked so professional, and the sauce was simply amazing. i put it on a sandwich the next day with some sliced turkey. Fantastic and Easy 10/07/2007 at 03:22pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Very good. Made them just after watching the episode, and can't stop eating them. Best ever 09/01/2007 at 04:21pm User: MARCY from Foster City, CA User Rating: Onion rings are my true guilty pleasure and I always order then when out for a burger but have never made them - til now. These are totally fabulous and so easy but BEWARE OF THE HOT OIL!! Because you need a relatively wide pot (so they don't stick together), the oil is not too deep and will splatter at will. I managed to burn one finger twice and another finger once so be careful. I will, however, make these again cuz they are well worth the pain!! yummy! 08/26/2007 at 07:54pm User: Anonymous User Rating: This recipe is so yummy. I used slices rather than rings but it was still great. Great 08/25/2007 at 01:49pm User: cynthia from woodbine, MD User Rating: Not a difficult as the recipe appears, worth the time. Delicious!! Crunch like no other onion rings! 08/20/2007 at 09:18am User: Chef from Lake Mary, FL User Rating: Ohhh how good were these onion rings!!? I told my husband when we made them I hoped the crunch was as loud as it was on the episode where Guy took a bite, and boy did this recipe not disappoint! These were hands down the best onion rings I have ever had. We used a Molson Canadian beer for the batter because we knew we liked its flavor. Next time we may do a Yuengling Black & Tan to give them an even richer flavor. The dipping sauce was very very tasty and a perfect compliment. I roasted my own sweet red bell peppers and used a bit extra sundried tomato for extra flavor. Just fantastic. Definitely use regular fat sour cream, not fat free if you want the full taste to shine through. Definitely recommend these, and make them with the dogs! Best ever! 08/17/2007 at 10:55pm User: Anonymous User Rating: These are the best ORings I've ever made. I do like a little more spice to mine, so I added a little cayenne, otherwise the recipe remains unchanged. I couldn't believe it when I took that first bite and got the same crunch that Guy got. Awesome! sutters' favorite 08/17/2007 at 04:02pm User: Debra from Sparta, IL User Rating: Of all the onion rings we have tried, these are the all time BEST. I was worried on how the dip would taste, but it was really great !!!!! light and airy 08/13/2007 at 09:48pm User: EILENE from stockton, CA User Rating: These onion rings are awesome. I couldn't make them fast enough for my family. They are so light and surprisingly not greasy. I did add a tablespoon of sugar to the batter because that helps them to brown faster and I just used red onions Better than Average 08/13/2007 at 01:01pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I found that the batter was flavorful, but felt it was a bit thick, and adjusted the beer content considerably to provide a thinner coating. Absolutely the best! 08/11/2007 at 11:11pm User: Marybeth from Aptos, CA User Rating: Best onion rings. Made them tonight with Paula?s Southern Fried Chicken. A to die foe combination. I will diet tomorrow. Great taste! 08/11/2007 at 06:01pm User: Erika from Baltimore, MD User Rating: These rings and dogs are so good, I could just lick my fingers all day! RHODE ISLANDER 08/11/2007 at 05:32pm User: Marjo from Apple Valley, CA User Rating: Being from New England, and specifally, Rhode Island, I'm familiar w/the Rhode Island Weiners. I hope this recipe by Guy will be the one I've been searching for. I've tried to copy this recipe, but always to no avail. They have all been good, but nothing like the real thing.
