The Best EVER!

I made these brownies for the first time last week, and I have never had a brownie so incredibly wonderful. The chocolate isn't too sweet, and the coffee really brings out the flavor. The peanut butter just adds another touch of love to it! A+++

Yes, I believe these brownies are one of the best recipes for brownies I have come across. I would highly recommend these for any party you have or even as a holiday treat because you can dress them up with many differant ideas as I did.

I made these brownies and took them to work. I've never gotten such rave reviews from anything I've taken. Well not exactly true...but these are by far the best brownies I've ever had or made.

Birthday Bust

User: Allan from Richmond, VA    User Rating:
Our family watched you make these on TV and my daughter wanted them for her birthday. I made them and followed the recipe exactly with the exception of cooking time. They turned out gooey in the middle 2/3 of the pan. I cooked them 15 minutes longer than suggested and only stopped then when they burned around the edges. My kind daughter said next time use a box mix as she ate them with a spoon.

Rich and delicious

These were so moist and delicious! Though I only used peanut butter on half of the batch, and didn't use very much (based on other reviews). The coffee adds richness of flavor. I did have to bake about 10 minutes longer than recommended - everyone's oven is different. So flavorful, and the perfect consistency. A+

These were really tasty brownies but took a while to make and were really rich. I liked them but was glad that I had some people to give them away to so that I did not eat too many. My father's quote was "I think I gained ten pounds from those!". I cooked mine a little too long and would use less time next time. They are a good brownie recipe that makes a ton and can be varied quite easily.

What happened?

I was so excited to make this and followed the recipe to a tee with the exception of the peanut butter. I actually swirled cream cheese instead and it was delicious! I would highly reccommend it. But, I found that the brownies were really salty, and, I had to bake them for about 30 minutes longer & they were still messy and gooey. Help! Any suggestions????

SCRUMPTIOUS!

User: Shelly from Pittsburgh, PA    User Rating:
These brownies are the best I have ever tasted and so much better than a box mix! I melted the P.butter to make it easier to swirl. I also used Vanilla flavored instant coffee. The baking time was right on. These brownies were so fudgey and delicious!

Good - But Not Worth Time/Expense

User: Stan from Kenmore, WA    User Rating:
These were good brownies. The peanut swirl touch at the end really hit the right spot with my wife. But the bottom line is that they were no better than what comes out of a box from the grocery store, with a handful of chocolate chips thrown in for good measure. Given that Ina's recipe is expensive and time consuming, I just can't justify making it instead of a $3.00 box from Safeway.

I made these brownies for my husband's b-day and this is what he had to say... "These brownies are scrumptous. The chocolate chips put them over the top. If I can suggest anything, I would like to have more peanut butter in the next batch. Ooo la, la, ooo, la, la. Jeffery is a lucky man if he gets these all of the time."

This brownie is so perfect...not too sweet. I made it with the semisweet chips and with peanut butter chips. Bother are great. Warming up the peanut butter makes it easier to "swirl". Just fabulous.

I cut the recipe in half and used a 9X13 pan as another reviewer suggested, and made only half with the peanut butter swirls. We all agreed that it was better without the PB. The brownies had a fudge-like consistency, but were still good.

User: Carol from kennesaw, GA    User Rating:
I made these brownies for a co-worker who loves brownies for his going away party. I couldn't even take them. As I put the recipe together I double checked the measurements because it seemed like there was way too much liquid for the amount of flour. These brownies were greasy from the amount of butter and seemed "oven-fried" for lack of a better term.

These brownies are great. If you want something really sweet and buttery, this is it. You can never have too much butter and chocolate mixed together in this recipe. The peanut butter swirl is amazing. It looks so pretty. It's a great thing to have for a party. You should probably microwave the peanut butter before swirling it. It's much easier.

Rich, chewy, YUMMY. Peanut butter looked messy when I swirled it but it looked the same as on the show. Very wet batter. My cooking time was almost a total hour. Was a big hit at a family get together.

These were easy to make and tasted great. I omitted the coffee since I do not like it, and they were still great. Melt the peanut butter first and you get a much better "swirl".

The baking time was a little off for me... might be my oven. But they still turned out wonderful. I might be inclined to add a little less sugar (it was too sweet) next time. I also added instant cappachino instead of regular instant coffee. The peanut butter was a nice touch and I need to learn how to swirl it in better next time. Tasted great however and I'll def. be keeping this one.

Fudgy Coffee
07/25/2007 at 07:17am
User: Christy from West Point, NY    User Rating:
These brownies have the perfect texture: fudgy and dense. I read some of the reviews for this recipe and omitted one TBS of coffee when I mixed the ingredients. While I know that coffee can, and does, enhance the flavor of chocolate, it overpowers the other flavors in this recipe. The coffee flavor also left something of an aftertaste as well. In the future, I will probably only use 1/2 to 1 tsp of coffee. I also found that in order to really swirl the peanut butter throughout the mixture that I had to use more than indicated in the ingredient list. All in all, an extremely promising recipe without the coffee.

YUMMMMMM

I've tried sooo many brownie recipes but this has been the best one yet. The top actually gets that nice brownie top instead of looking like a cake. My brother-in-law, who isn't big on sweets loved this and kept saying how moist and flavorful they were. For me, I think either leave out the salt and add the right amount of peanut butter or reduce the peanut butter. For me the peanut butter made it kinda salty. Everyone is always asking me to make these for them.

I thought the peanut butter didn't bake well. The brownie part was great and I would make the brownies again without the peanut butter. If anyone has a suggestion about the peanut butter, I am open to hear it.

These brownies are so good- thick and rich, fudgy and delicious. You could wrap them individually and sell them for $3 a piece. My husband loves peanut butter, and I like it, but I put peanut butter dollops on 3/4 of it and nutella dollops on "my side". The nutella made it so good. The coffee was just right for us, you can taste it, but it adds such a great background flavor.

Very good!

User: Carol from Schenectady, NY    User Rating:
I tried this recipe and heard that these brownies were very good. My husband and sons ate the entire pan before I could try one! I didn't have the size sheet pan called for in the recipe, so I halved the recipe and used a 9"x13" pan. I omitted the instant coffee because I didn't have any. I melted the peanut butter to make swirling easier.

Good but not great

Great chocolate flavor, however coffee flavor is too strong...will reduce by 1/2 next time. Much better paired with fresh whipped cream with amaretto

Ina had said this is how she had landed Jeffery in college. These brownies are thee best I've ever eaten. They are moist, chocolaty, and can see how they can be: "the culinary little black dress" When I watched her make these on TV, I just had to log on and print the recipe. I made them for a pot luck at work. We have 22 employees, and there was not a crumb left. Everyone wanted the recipe, and they all think I'm a gourmet baker now! A+, 5 stars, over the top! Thank you Ina.....love your show, you're the best!

Great Recipe

User: Greg from Greensburg, PA    User Rating:
I have made this recipe several times and it has come out absolutely perfect every time. They are not greasy or doughy if you follow the recipe and prepare it correctly. Most of Ina's recipes talk some know how and more upscale ingredients. Howerver this is why she was such a successful caterer for so many years. So my advice is for the other people who had problems with this recipe is: If you read through a recipe and dont think you can handle it, then dont waste the money on the premium ingredients and dont waste the time writing a bad review because you did not have enough skill to complete it correctly. Also, brownies are not typically a lowfat food so dont be suprised by the butter and chocolate.

I watched you make these brownies on TV. They looked absolutely delicious and I couldn't wait to get all of my ingredients together and make a batch for my husband and his brother firefighters. They came out sooooo bad. I could wring the grease out of them. I thought when reading all of the ingredients that was a lot of fat but followed the recipe exactly. If you could stand to eat that much grease you would have to eat it with a spoon. Think about it. Butter, peanut butter, and all of the fat in the chocolate. Oh my gosh. I will use a box the next time.

Question
01/30/2008 at 11:22am
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
I'm going to make these today and I'm wondering if the people who say they baked them much longer remembered they are supposed to put them in the fridge after baking. Maybe not doing that is why they don't firm up.

Too much butter, brownies are greasy.
01/13/2008 at 09:12am
User: CATHERINE from Austin, TX    User Rating:
I made these yesterday and the brownies are greasy. You barely touch a brownie and your hand is greasy... yuck. These are certainly chocolatey which is very good, but the butter makes them too dense and rich, and it weighs them down. These brownies look and taste more like greasy fudge than dense, chocolatey brownies. Calling for 1 pound of butter for 20 brownies is just too much (that's a little more than 1-1/2 tablespoons per serving.) Next time I will try 1/2 to 3/4-pound of butter and substituting some milk for the remaining butter.
