This rice dish is outstanding! Just like "Guy" says, it does have BIG FLAVOR! I have served it at a few parties and it has always been a big hit. I throw alittle fresh ginger in it for alittle more flavor. It's worth making...give it a try!

I served this last night at my Luau themed Bunco party....a perfect combination of flavors and a huge hit with everyone! Add grilled chicken kabobs and molten lava cake to the menu and you can't go wrong!

I love black pepper but I'm afraid it was really overbearing to me in the recipe. Maybe 2 teaspoons is not right for this amount of rice? I could really dig the lime juice though, it was good overall. Will try again but with half the black pepper to suit my own taste.

This is a great way to make rice that is simple and flavorful. I noticed several people said that 2 tablespoons of salt is too much and the rice was too salty. It does not call for that. Listed above kosher salt, to taste, was 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. These were clearly separate and salt is to be added to your liking not by the tablespoon.

I found this rice to be so flavorful and complimentary to the Kabobs. It is so good that hubby and I make it all the time as a side for other festive dishes. Just fantastic. Who would have thought simple ingredients could spice up bland white rice this good? YUMMMY!!!

Easy dinner party favorite!

FAB RICE!!

User: SANDRA from SAN PEDRO, CA    User Rating:
THIS WAS PERFECT WITH THE JERK CHICKEN KABOBS. FLAVOR WAS JUST SUBTLE ENOUGH NOT TO INTERFERE WITH THE OTHER FLAVORS IN THE MARINDADE & SALSA. I USED BASMATI RICE & SAUTEED THE GARLIC FIRST WITH A COUPLE HANDFULS OF GREEN ONIONS BEFORE ADDING. THIS WOULD BE A GREAT RICE TO SERVE WITH ANY CURRY OR CHINESE DISH.

so..........Good

User: Kristen from Nashua, NH    User Rating:
MY husband told me I could make this meal anytime. I must admit that my husband was busy on the computer - so I didn't look back at the amount of salt and used the old "to taste" test. This was definitely the most flavorful rice "salad" I've had in a while!

Deliciouso!

Much Different on the Show
06/02/2007 at 05:17pm
User: MEL from Seattle, WA    User Rating:
I just watched the show, and it differs a lot from this recipe. Guy uses 2 cups of long-grain rice, 2 cups chicken stock and 1 3/4 cup water, and simmers this for 25 minutes (no rice cooker). He doesn't say how much cilantro and parsley but says it's "1/2 and 1/2," so same amount of parsley as cilantro. He adds "4 or 5" cloves of garlic, chopped, and "a little" salt and pepper--he didn't say how much, but the amount of salt was definitely WAY less than it says in the recipe. I didn't see him add the lime juice and olive oil, but he does mention that it's in there before he adds it to the rice.

Not good

Ingredients proportions need modifying
05/06/2007 at 03:00pm
User: Linda from Petaluma, CA    User Rating:
The ingredient proportions seem off. There is not enough liquid; there should be a total of 4 to 4 1/2 cups, not 3 1/2 cups. And the 2+ tablespoons of salt simply overwhelmed all the other ingredients. Surely this is a mistake. I can't tell you how the recipe tased since we could taste only the salt.

Type OOOOOOOOOO
04/22/2007 at 10:17pm
User: Debra from College Place, WA    User Rating:
there is WAY too much salt in this recipe. I would say to start with 1 teaspoon of salt and add from there if you like. Other than that, it was quite good!

There's gotta be typos in the recipe
04/15/2007 at 08:49pm
User: Cactus from Forney, TX    User Rating:
I've made Guy's recipes before and have had great success with each except for this one. I'm convinced there are typos in the recipe. The next time I make it I will half the parsley and use teaspoons instead of tablespoons for the salt. I bet it'll be as yummy as his other ones.

Good Dish But Too Much Salt
04/08/2007 at 04:01pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
This is a simple dish to make and has a good flavor just use less salt. My husband who loves salt even thought it was too salty. I made it without parsley and added more cilantro.

Sorry

So many of his recipes work, this does not. Too many flavors that do not work and WAY too much salt. We both took a couple bites and the rest went down the garbage disposal.

The best rice
02/11/2007 at 05:53pm
User: Deborah from Baltimore, MD    User Rating:
I've made this several times and it's now my family's favorite rice. It has a remarkably refreshing taste. I use only kosher salt in cooking and I like my food on the salty side but the amount of salt in the recipe is too much. Start with less, you can always add more. The dish is best with a long grain rice or basamati. I first made it with short grain rice and it was a bit sticky.

Wasteful

This recipe was the biggest disappointment! I was really looking forward to this dish. I even read everyones ratings prior to making it. It was absolutely Horrible...The seasoning was bitter and overpowering. I ended up throwing it all away.

This was great!

User: Kelly from San Diego, CA    User Rating:
This rice was so delicious! It worked well with the Jerk Chicken Kabobs but also would really work with a lot of other things. The only thing I would caution is that it calls for alot of raw garlic. I love garlic, but I will cut back just a bit on it the next time around! Another great recipe from Guy!

So few ingredients, so much flavor
01/27/2007 at 09:25am
User: ROBIN from Blairstown, NJ    User Rating:
It's amazing how just a little bit of some fresh ingredients can make an ordinary side dish pop out at you. Never would've thought of garlic and lime with rice, but wow, those tastes plus the fresh parsley and cilantro were amazing. I used the leftovers (surprised that I had some!) in salads, in a wrap, and again as a side. Might be one of the only ways I'll make rice again! Well, that's going a little far, but it truly is delicious.

Wow...that's about all you can say. This was SOOO easy and it packs in SOOO much flavor. I used a mini food processor and added everything in at once, and it's ok - but i'll probably take the time to hand chop it next time to get a slightly better texture. But the flavor is fabulous! It will be our new standard quick rice recipe.
