I've made this several times now for family and friends. And each time have been asked by multiple people for the recipe. We love the unique blend of flavors and the fact that we usually have the ingredients on hand. Great job Guy!

THIS WAS GREAT! DOUBLED THE RECIPE AND MADE IT FOR A CROWD. PEOPLE SAID IT WAS THE BEST SALAD THEY EVER HAD. DIDN'T HAVE SHERRY VINEGAR SO SUBSTITUTED RED WINE VINEGAR. ALSO ADDED (1) CHOPPED AVACADO AND SOME CHOPPED BLACK OLIVES.

Loved it!

I was surprised to see there was absolutely no oil of any kind in this, so I thought I might not like it...wrong. The honey and pineapple did not make this over-the-top sweet, as I'm not fond of sweet and savory foods mixed together. without oil, it is just fine as is; you can even consider this 'spa cuisine.' I didn't have any red pepper, eliminated that but added more cilantro, like it a lot. Use what you want in this, but I don't think you should go out of your way to change it. It's a colorful fiesta as is on your plate.

Really different approch to bean salad

The pineapple, honey and vinegar give a sweetness to the salad that make it very enjoyable. The next time I make it, I will use my wife's homemade black beans. The ones in the can lacked the flavor that hers always have. Great idea for a salad!

Refreshing and light!

I found this recipe to be exactly what I was needing for our mothers day family get together. The salad is light and refreshing with the simple tastes of sweetness to the bite from the onions. The cilantro is a very nice balance and compliment to the corn. This would make a perfect picnic salad or compliment to any BBQ. Way to go Guy!

Great, great recipe. Plan to be making it alot this summer. Great side dish to accompany Mexican food, when you're tired of the same -o rice n beans. Can't wait to pair this with carne asada. Surprisingly , my five year old ate all of his bowl-and said" I like the salad" ! I think it was the pineapple and honey. I followed this to the "t" except I used red wine vinegar instead of the sherry vinegar. Thanks Guy!

I've only tried it once but I love it. I skipped the jalapeno and substitute red wine vinegar for sherry vinegar. I also substituted parsley for the cilantro. It tastes great alone or on top of a green salad. I bet it is also great with torilla or corn chips. It would be great with different substitutions as mentioned in other posts.

User: Stacee from Studio City, CA    User Rating:
My husband and I take this to super bowl parties, birthdays, etc...and it's always a hit. We recommend rinsing the black beans after draining them. This removes some of the bean residue and keeps the salad from having a somewhat dingy color and appearance. It doesn't affect the flavor at all.

This salad was extremely tasty and very easy to make. I couldn't find sherry vinegar at the grocery store so I used red wine vinegar instead, and it still tasted great. My boyfriend who doesn't care for black beans said he could learn to like black beans because of this salad. Will definitely make this again.

When I saw this made on TV, I was very anxious to try it... it looked great. Now, having made it, it wasn't what I was expecting. The flavor is OK, but for me, it doesn't quite hit the mark... it needed more/better seasoning. To be fair, I did make adjustments to suit our preferences: I omitted the jalapeno, substituted pineapple juice for lime juice because I didn't have a lime, and added 3 cloves minced garlic. I wasn't totally disappointed with the outcome, but at the same time I wasn't thrilled, either. Even so, I still think it would be a great accompaniment for any kind of fish, and I did like the unusal flavor the pineapple added. If I make this again, I'll definitely use lime juice .

I've made this dish several times. Everyone loves it. Not only is it eye catching with all the colors, it's a wonderful compliment to any mexican dish. I've made it for parties, family dinners, and as a quick side. It's easy, and very flavorful. I pumped up the pineapple a bit and left out the Jalapenos a couple times as well. Every time, it's a hit! LOVE IT!

I've made a similar salad in the past, but his one is easier than my old stand-by. I totally agree with another reviewer that the pineapple kicks this salad up a few notches over any others I've tried. By the way, I used white wine vinegar instead of sherry vinegar and it worked great. Try this salad -- you'll love it. Thanks, Guy!
