These scones were the best...and to the person who's name is (YUCK) how dare you insult Ina ! Because you can't cook a simple thing like scones, and you have to put her down over it ? Its almost always a fact that people who insult are so ugly they always have to be insulting others to make themselves feel better !! Well, back off YUCK !!

Finally, a scone that tastes just like the one they sell at the Nordstrom cafeteria: absolutely delicious and decadent. Thank you Ina for yet another fabulous recipe :)

I had been looking for a baked scone receipe for years that was not just a little more than a biscuit. Well I finally found it in this receipe. It is special in the fact that it has just the right texture and sweetness and perfect for serving as a snack with tea or for a lovely tea party. I will never make any other kind and I am sure I will be making them for special occasions, Thank you INA

I found these scones to be excellent. Most scones I've made in the past have been somewhat heavy...these were light and airy. I did not use strawberries, I added about two tablespoons of lemon zest instead. I also sprinkled "Sugar in the Raw" to the top of the scones instead of regular sugar. I served them with spreadable strawberry fruit. The combination of of lemon and strawberry is wonderful. Again, excellent recipe.

What happened to the Winner of her Taste Test? The second recipe had walnuts and Orange zest added. The group and Contessa decided that it was the better of the two, but now the recipe of the losing scone is put on the Web Page??!!

These scones were the perfect texture. Let them sit and cool completely before digging in. My husband and I agreed that the next day, they were even better. They are not that sweet but they are not suppose to be. Just think, if they were too sweet how could you add that delicious jam or preserves on top. The best scones that I have tasted!!

I enjoyed making this recipe a few times. One time I could not located dried strawberries and used freeze-dried strawberries. It definitely worked, but did not have as strong of a strawberry flavor and didn't have the bigger pieces of strawberries in them since they crumble apart.

Like some of the other reviewers, I added more sugar (1/2 cup instead of 2 Tbsp) and because I didn't find dried strawberries, I used diced fresh. I also increased the amount of strawberries to about 1 cup and they worked out beautifully. As well, I did add some more cream to make the dough a little more pliable. They turned out just great - flaky and flavorful. I agree with Ina, cold butter is key so I popped mine in the freezer for a couple of minutes before I threw it in the mixer. Next time I think I will add orange zest and nuts like Ina did in the show. Another Barefoot Contessa winner!

I love scones, but not these. They were not sweet enough (and I added double the sugar). They were too salty and you could also taste the baking soda. These scones were easy enough to make, but not worth the calories.

This is a good base recipe. I followed the directions to a 'T' and found that the baking time (for my oven) was too long. I ended up taking then out after 15 minutes because they were already deep golden brown. They were a bit bland and came out biscuit like. Next time I'm going to add more strawberries and 1/4 cup of sugar instead of 2TBS. All in all, I had fun making then and my neighbors were all happy for the treat!

In this recipe i substituted blueberries for strawberries, only because i couldn't find any strawberries. I did everything just like it says but i think i rolled them out thinner than i should of. They were very tasty scones. I think if i would of rolled them out as thick as the recipe i would of needed more baking time. Being that mine were thinner they still needed the full 25 minuted to bake completely on the inside.

Love these!!

The scone does melt in your mouth (but that's what happens when you add 3/4 pounds of butter)..But the overall flavor is missing something. You definitely need to be generous with the sprinkling of the sugar. I'm not sure if it needs lemon or orange peel, perhaps a tiny bit of cardamom? It's missing something--- I just can't pinpoint it. It's a good recipe to start out with, I'm going to experiment with it. I have a recipe for cream scones from a bed & breakfast in San Francisco, and that was MUCH better..

Get a life and learn how to cook before you start to insult a woman that obviously can cook.

Perhaps it may have been an insipid bucket of strawberries, but I thought these scones were very bland unless eaten with some jam. I know that it's common to eat them with jam (in truth with devonshire or clotted cream), but I've made scones from other recipes (in particular a certain website with bed and breakfast recipes) that can be eaten alone and are AMAZING. This recipe, in my opinion, was quite PLAIN. I wouldn't make them again.

I fell in love with the Chocolate Chip Scones at Starbucks and when they stopped selling them for a while, I had to get some! So I substituted chocolate chips for dried strawberries, and they turned out quite tasty! I think I'd try to add more chocolate to them though, and maybe a little cocoa or coffee into the dough to bring out the chocolate flavors. Overall though, definitely a good way to wake up!

Flaky and light with some modifications

User: Haydee from Running Springs, CA    User Rating:
These scones melt in your mouth - they're so light and flaky, but the recipe does need a little adjusting for flavor. I added half a cup of sugar instead of 2 TSP. The dough just wasn't sweet enough on its own. I also froze the butter before adding it to the dough - you don't want the butter to start melting as you roll it out or manipulate it with your hands. I also had to add a little more liquid(cream) since I live at high altitude. You should expect a pretty sticky batter. I made two different batches from the same recipe: in one half I put in 3/4 C of chocolate chips and then topped with sugar, and in the other half I added the 1/3 C of walnuts and about 1/2 cup of orange cranberries, similar to what Ina did on TV. I also topped these with sugar. I think they might be even better with a glaze, and I might try that. I baked off a couple of dozen scones from this one batch and had enough to freeze an additional small batch. It make a lot of scones since I like mine on the small side.

These scones were not as great as I had hoped they'd be. Ina always has such great recipes but this one missed the mark. I made this recipe twice trying to improve it. I found it more baking powder biscuit-ish than scone. They needed something else to add flavor. To me it seemed too bland or something. I adding more sugar and orange zest and that helped but there is still something just 'ok' about these scones.

My husband and I made these for breakfast and were not happy with the outcome. Two T of sugar did not make them sweet enough... you could taste more of the saltiness than the sweetness. The dough was extremely sticky and difficult to roll out and the end result was a labor intensive, unsatisfying scone.

These scones were delicious, however, I would add 50% to 100% more strawberries. The only dried strawberries our store had were sugar cured and this element added an extra boost to the recipe. A++ with extra strawberries I think the recipe could be near perfect!

This was the first recipe for scones that I ever tried, and I served them to my bunko guests 2 wks ago. They are the best scones I have ever tasted. They are moist and flaky which is very unusual for a scone. Since then I tried another scone recipe from Tea magazine which turned out dry and heavy. I highly recommend this recipe and have had my bunko friends request it from me. Enjoy! Nancy

I took Ina's original recipe and altered it by adding different ingredients. I added a bit more sugar to the dough and made a hole in the cut out triangles and added homemade jam to the center. I also added some raw sugar to the top and it comes out just like the coffee houses carry. Very tasty!

I have been making scones for years based upon family recipes and this one knocked them all out of the park. GO INA!

I actually baked these scones and they were terrific; albeit, I did use Splenda instead of the sugar and fat free heavy cream. My problem is that there is a reviewer "Yuck" who obviously does not cook but is commenting on Ina's appearance (a sign of jealousy) and saying that Ina cannot cook. This person put the same review on another recipe review site. He/she must watch the shows or just is a mean-spirited person. He/she should not be allowed on the review sites.

The recipe needs to be corrected I believe

I love the Barefoot Contessa but I believe this recipe had a typo as 2 teaspoons of salt seemed to be way too much. I even had a few people try them and they felt the same way. I totally agree that cold butter and cream makes it so much easier to work with! I think I will reduce the salt and increase the sugar and see what happens :) I too couldn't find dried strawberries after calling 3 local chain grocery stores and 1 health food store so I used orange flavored dried cranberries and orange zest as I wanted to try and duplicate her orange zest/walnut recipe that she featured recently.

Love you Ina!

I made the strawberry scones which by the way were super easy to make and very tasty. I know this was't the recipe that everryone preferred on the show but if you watched the show all you needed to do was to add some walnuts(I like to toast mine and some grated orange zest)...how hard is that. I also like to use a non aluminum baking powder because like a previous reviewer, I can taste the baking powder if I don't (it's bitter)...so it is worth it to me to search around a little to find it...'Rumford' is one brand). I have made another recipe for scones that she had up also...they were cranberry and orange and also were the best I have ever had or made. Every other recipe I have tried or have eaten have been so dry you could choke on them!...and Oh yeah..."YUCK" you are a pretty sad person and not a person I would personally care to have as a friend. You are rating a product...not insulting the person making it. If YOU made something that didn't come out right I would just say that I didn't care for your recipe but it would not affect my opinion of YOU....but in this case....you were totally out of line. Sorry this is so.o.o long, but I can't stand people like that!
