Amazing and Delicious

I made this cake after seeing it on TV and it was better than I had imagined. I have never worked with egg whites before and it was rather easy. Make sure to follow directions and whip them long enough. I made this cake for a family function and got rave reviews. I am now required to make this every time. Everyone calls it the Kellie cake. The glaze is a chocolate lover's dream.

This recipe is so easy to prepare and makes a beautiful, light cake that has beautiful presentation. It's just sinful to have around because it is so tempting. Thank you Ina!!

This chocolate angel food cake was very tasty. My only complaint would be the glaze. I made this recipe twice and both times the glaze was too thick and didn't drizzle down the sides of the cake nicely. Maybe less chocolate chips or more cream next time. You definitely have to use superfine sugar and do all the sifting that Ina recommends. It makes a difference in the way the cake turns out. The taste was very yummy and I thought the heavier glaze with the light cake was a nice contrast. Overall, I loved it and so did my family!

Hi Ina, I have to tell you I love watching your show. Recently you made the Black and White Angel Food Cake, I tried this receipe it was AMAZING I followed your instructions to the letter and it was the highlight of the year. My kids loved it and they usually only eat food from a box even though I am a southern girl and we ate fresh foods made from scratch meals. Anyways just wanted to praise your receipe it was great.

Too good for words...but I will try anyway!!!

GREAT...SUPER...FANTASTIC...I am not sure what the people that gave this recipe lower than 4 stars were thinking or what they did. THIS CAKE WAS...for lack of a better word...AWESOME...OMG!!! I DV-R all Mrs. Garten's shows and I have tried many of her recipes. All that I have tried, I loved. This was no exception. Mikael from Forest,VA gave a great idea to make ice cream with the yolks...did that also.

This was the first time I attempted to make an angel food cake and it came out fantastic! My husband and I are going to a dinner party next week and I'm in charge of dessert....guess what I'm brining!

Delicious & Relatively Simple

This cake was gorgeous and the icing was absolutely decadent. I used the 60% cocao bittersweet chocolate and it was well worth the extra cost. This cake does take some time to make, but I cut out a few minutes by using egg whites from a carton. I found the cake's texture a little tough but my family loved it and I'll definetly nake it again.

very nice!!!!

This cake tasted like pure egg white. I expected a luxurious dessert after seeing Ina make in on tv but it tastes horrible and was a pain to make (i.e sifting, grating, breaking eggs and beating the whites takes much more time than you think) i would never serve this cake to anyone.

Beautiful, light, and absolutely delicious!

I have four of Ina's cookbooks and make her recipes frequently, but know that this review is relatively unbiased because I don't always like her recipes (just most of the time!). This cake amazed me with how easy it was to make (I had never made an angel food cake before), and it made a very elegant and mouthwatering presentation with the ganache on top. I made it because I was looking for a light but delicious dessert to serve to my family, and this recipe indeed fit the bill! I disagree with the people who said the chocolate overpowers the angel food cake; it does not, in my opinion--the amount of chocolate in the cake is very small, for one. I also disagree with the reviews that say the recipe made too much ganache. Are you kidding? Is there such a thing? :) Seriously, though, I found the amount perfect for generously topping the cake and letting it drizzle down the sides. It's supposed to be a bit thick, and with a light cake, it's perfect.

Ganache left a little to be desired...

Believe it or not, this was better the next day/the fourth day. The ganache had a chance to harden up a bit, which made it better, though Im not sure why. It is a little on the bitter side, so I would recommend a milk chocolate or a mix of milk chocolate and semi-sweet. The cake was just mediocre, though pretty with the dots of chocolate. The ganache really carried the cake in my opinion

DELICIOUS! BEAUTIFUL! EASY! It is a dream! We have to divide equally at our house so there's no fighting over it! Adding the chocolate is amazing! Will make this one over and over again!

The preparation phase is long, but once you get everything prepared (flour, sugar sifted and chocolate grated), it goes by very quickly and turns out wonderful. It was a huge hit at my work picnic!!

Takes a bit to make, but, it is a great treat! I was worried with folding since i am not that great at it but it came out great so don't be scared with it. I thought I would ruin it since the whites were so fluffy, i think i might have folded to much but the cake was great and soft and was soft for day. The glaze is too much meaning quanity wise, so I will have to play with it to make it smaller amount, but this glaze was heavenly it does overpower the cake if you use too much!!! Enjoy and it is great!

Forever chocolate!

I love angel food cake. So for my birthday, my husband bought an angel food cake and then made Ina's glaze....poured it on top and served with fresh strawberries. Yum! My husband would have tried to make the angel food cake, but a store bought was a "cheater's" way for him to give me something special after work without all the kitchen work! lol Thanks for a great idea!

When I prepared this recipe, it was fairly easy and an delicious recipe. The second time I made it with an Angel Food Cake mix which made it even easier. I also added silver French Dragees to give the cake an elegant look.

I found that this cake tasted so much better after sitting for a day after making it. After a day or so, the cake seemed to taste much more moist. Regardless, the cake comes out beautifully and looks quite impressive for the little effort that is put into it. Will definitely be making this again!

Throw this cake and the recipe away!

I was asked to bring this cake to a group dinner but after making it I was uncomfortable serving it to anyone. The chocolate overpowers the lightness of an angel food cake. I made Ina's lemon angel food cake to bring to the dinner instead and it was wonderful. I also brought the Black and White cake and we all sampled it in the kitchen and came to the same conclusion- throw this cake out!

OUTSTANDING

I made this recipe out of the at home cookbook - it was a Christmas present for my friend - so I tried it out. It was so delicious! There we only four of us for dinner so I put the chocolate sauce on each slice before serving so the cake would not become mush while being stored.

Angelfood cakes always take a little time and care with all the sifting, folding, etc.,but this one is worth it. We had friends over last night and I served this. Everyone thought it was delicious. It was very light and had great flavor. I left out the 1 tblsp. of cream for the ganache and it was just a little thicker. I used all of it on the cake. It looked gorgeous! Thanks Ina for another great recipe!

I made this cake in the middle of the night two nights ago because I couldn't sleep and it was completely gone by the next afternoon. My two girls kept going back for more and my husband ate half of it by himself. They always love my cooking but I can't remember a cake disappearing that quickly. I only got one slice! It's so light but still has a nice consistency and the ganache is so perfect with it.

Came out gorgeous!

This cake is delicious and for those who love angel food cake, it's a nice surprise to find the chocolate in the cake and also on top! Since it uses around 10 egg whites, it's good to make homemade ice cream with the egg yolks and serve the ice cream with the cake.

Well Worth It

Tastes really good. This was so easy and very inexpensive to make. I served it to my family but wouldn't hesitate to entertain with it as well. Beware this makes more than enough ganache.
