the only alterations i made were leaving out the kalhua and i used instant espresso instead of espresso grounds (eventhough ina advised against it in the show). the only problem i had was i didnt incorporate enough air into the ice cream, so mine came out a little hard. also, i advise people to serve it in small dishes. its luxurious, and dont forget LOADED! (its still coffee!)

This ice cream is good but is gritty. And with the chocolate covered espresso beans, it turns out really chunky. I would suggest steaping the cream with coarse grounds and then sieve it.

Fantastic!

Where is the 6 Star Rating? :-)

I made this today and this ice cream is nothing short of amazing. I used finely ground espresso (illy brand) and prepared the recipe as written. It had no graininess at all. I only deviated from the recipe in one respect. I didn't have coffee flavored liquer on hand so I used orange flavored (Cointreau) instead. It gave a nice extra dimension of flavor and there was no distracting orange taste. I might double the recipe next time; then it would be worthwhile to break out the food processor to chop up the chocolate covered coffee beans, which was a bit tedious by hand. Thank you, Ina!

Can't stop eating it!

This receipe was wonderful. We did not add the choc covered espresso beans in the mixture. We had them on the side for anyone who wanted to add them in. Great! I will definitely make it again.

Great recipe sans grinds

Super simple! I steaped the ground beans and cream together and then I too used a sieve to remove the grinds and the end result had a very intense coffee flavor with a velvety texture! I have made this ice cream a few times using a variety of flavored coffee beans and have also drizzled in caramel syrup after freezing in the ice cream maker before hard freezing.

YUM

Had to make this after seeing it on the show, first time to make ice cream in my new freezer. Substituted heavy cream instead of half and half, the results were awesome!!! Very rich, gonna go eat another bowl right now.

I used this recipe as a base recipe for ice cream, I actually made Peach ice cream. Very easy to do, easily converted to other flavors. Finished product has creamy texture, full flavor, simply great.

Delicious, but needs straining

I added the espresso grounds to the half and half and then scalded it and followed the rest of the recipe. I find that I don't like the texture of espresso grounds in custards or ice creams so, like a previous cook, I strained the mixture at the very end, using a succession of fine strainers to get most of the grounds out. What was left were fine grounds, sort of like what you'd see from the seeds of a vanilla bean. In addition, I left out the coffee beans and the Kahlua, because there were young children in the group, but some of us poured a shot on top of the finished ice cream, which was delicious.

Incredible coffee flavor - I chickened out at the last minute and only added 1 tbl of ground espresso. I also doubled up on the Kahlua and the results were excellent. Served this with a drizzle of hot fudge and some toasted almonds and my husband practically licked his bowl clean. Also makes a great milkshake!

This recipe was very good. I made the mistake of not grinding the coffee fine enough before incorporating them into the custard. The addition of the crushed/chopped chocolate covered espresso beans was terrific!

This was so easy to make and the end result was wonderful! My son says it's the best coffee ice cream he's ever tasted! (I did pour it through a fine mesh sieve to remove the coffee granules because I knew my family would not like the texture of the granules in the ice cream) Thanks Ina for another great recipe!

amazing!
