This dish is absolutely delicious. I was surprised at the combination tuna-basil, so good! I've already tried other pasta recipies from Rachel Ray and they're all awsome. Thank you Rachel ray for your amazing recipies !!

A big hit

This casserole is awsome. My family loved it. I took the advise of one of the reviewers and doubled the sauce and added nutmeg. It was fantastic. I also added and extra cup of heavy cream just to keep it nice and moist in the heating tray until dinner time.

Fantastically different!

I tried out this recipe and it turned out to be so good! I didn't have any basil, but it was okay w/o it. I used parsley instead. I'm definitely going to make this again - it's great in large batches esp. if you're studying for exams all week long and don't want to cook a lot. Very creamy and the flavor doesn't get old after a few bites. :-)

Delicious Spin on Tuna Casserole

User: Rachel from Plainview, NY    User Rating:
This recipe was so easy to make, and my entire family enjoyed it. My only complaint was that there wasn't really enough sauce to coat the pasta. I think maybe 3/4 cup each of dry white wine and heavy cream would have done the trick. Otherwise, a wonderful recipe...very flavorful. Thanks for a delicious, easy meal, Rachael!

This recipe was not as bad as the other reviews made it sound like. I did double the sauce which was great advice and I also added nutmeg (because of the cream sauce) I liked it and would make it again. Thanks Rachael.

Disappointed...

Usually enjoy Racheal's recipes, but this one is a "miss". Barely edible. Flavor is bland, VERY fishy, doesn't seem to healthy for you either. Expensive also, to purchase all the ingredients. Family didn't like it at all. Will stick to more traditional tuna casserole.

Definitely not one of Rachel's better recipes. Even with extra cream and wine as suggested in the other reviews, the flavors just don't mesh. Definitely will stick to traditional tunafish casserole next time.

User: Jackie from Alpharetta, GA    User Rating:
i didn't use fetticine like the recipe calls for, instead i used a little less of a pound of leftover linguine. like other reviewers, this dish is a bit bland, so i had to add a LOT of salt and pepper to add more flavor into the dish. at the end, i also sprinkled a generous amount of ground red pepper to give the dish a bit more kick to it. my entire family loves it...which is a rarity because they're all such picky eaters. i can't wait to cook this dish again!

User: Julie from Miami, FL    User Rating:
I am a huge Rachel Ray fan. While the ingredients sounded as though they would be great in a dish, there was very little flavor. I actually substituted roasted chicken for the tuna and included the juices from the chicken to add additional flavor, with no luck. Would not make again.

too dry
10/05/2006 at 04:51pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
After reading reviews I added more cream and more white wine and only 1/2 lb of pasta but it was still dry. Substituted petite diced tomatoes for the sun-dried tomatoes. It was a very tastely dish but I wonder if fettuccine is not the wrong pasta and another type would not leave the dish so dry.

Not the best...

Too dry
09/08/2006 at 08:02pm
User: Deborah from Orlando, FL    User Rating:
I think this would have been a lot better without so much fettucine. It was way too much and the sauce could not absorb in to it all. The ingredients all came together and were quite tasty. Suggestion...try it with out so much pasta, no need for a pound. Maybe 1/2 or less.

great recipe

I was really surprised how tasty this was. I don't really like canned tuna but it is great in this recipe. It is very creamy and the wine makes the tase of tuna so mild. You should definetely double the Sause (wine and cream).

This recipe is a terrific variation on the tuna noodle casserole I grew up with. I made a slight change, though... I put the finished mixture in a casserole dish, topped it with parmesan, and baked it in the oven for 15 minutes so it would set.

I made this tonight with a few changes. I doubled the sauce and used about three good handfulls of egg noodles. It still made a lot! Plenty for four people. It turned out good and was super simple and fast to make. Next time I'll add a few pinches of red pepper flakes to give it a little kick. Other than that, YUMMO!

User: Lori from Houston, TX    User Rating:
I made this recipe tonight for dinner, and even though I didn't read the reviews first (I usually do), I saw her make it and decided it was going to be too dry. So i doubled the wine, and tripled the cream, and I skipped the tomatoes altogether. It was a great dish!!! My husband at all of his before half of mine was gone! The best part was I burned the garlic a little bit and it still didn't ruin the taste! :)

Excellent, but......
07/03/2007 at 04:20pm
User: Steve from San Francisco, CA    User Rating:
This was such a simple , quick, tasty meal. The flavors of the white wine with the sun dried tomatoes are very crisp, but the heavy cream balanced them nicely. My only but: we all agreed we could have used more of the sauce and that the dish was on the dry side. That did not stop us from eating the entire casserole in one sitting. If we'd have had left-overs, I'm sure the pasta would have absorbed what little was left of the sauce and the dish would have been too dry the next day. The next time I make this, when I drain the pasta, I"ll be sure to keep 1 and half cups of the pasta water. And when I am putting together the white whine/cream sauce, I"ll add in some of the pasta water.

I told my husband I was trying out a new Rachael Ray recipe, Renaissance of Tuna Casserole. I cooked the recipe (it did take about twice as long as the recipe predicted) and served it up. After a few bites, my husband said "I thought you said we were having tuna casserole". I laughed and said in a highbrow voice "this is Rachael Ray's RENAISSANCE of Tuna Casserole"! I'm not a huge tuna casserole fan but this new twist on the old fare is excellent...its lighter, healthier, and a more sophisticated take on the traditional casserole and is definitely a keeper for this cook. I did double the wine and cream as it seemed a bit dry before but that could have been because I was using a whole grain pasta.

Fresh Basil Makes Magic
06/01/2007 at 09:48am
User: Joan from Boston, MA    User Rating:
I made it last night and it was fantastic. I took the advice about doubling the wine and cream, and it was good advice; it would have been too dry with the original recipe amount. The pasta absorbs the liquid. I was delighted when I tasted the sauce in the pan, but was amazed at what a difference the fresh basil topping made when I served it. Took it from "very good" to "fabulous."

This dish reminded me of my mom's way of stretching the budget to feel 6 kids - macaroni & cheese with tuna and peas. This meal was super easy, more healthful, classier, and more delicious with that childhood memory bonus kickback. Loved the sun-dried tomatoes and used spaghetti instead. Husband raved!

User: Brittany from Astoria, NY    User Rating:
Being a single gal, I really don't cook that often unless the dish requires very little effort and doesn't take long to make. This meal truly took less than 30 minutes to cook, and required no more effort that chopping up the vegetables and throwing all the ingredients into a pan. This pasta has great flavor and also tastes really fresh. I decided used whole wheat fettucine to give it a little healthy twist. If you like tuna I highly reccomend this recipe.

With the oil, cream and cheese in this dish I don't see it as being healthier than a can of soup. Plus this is not a casserole. A casserole is baked in the oven. Overall I prefer the original.

Too expensive
05/23/2006 at 04:45am
User: jana from Edmonds, WA    User Rating:
I agree with the poster above who said it was too expensive to make. Tuna Casserole is not one of the things you make when you have enough money to buy Italian oil packed tuna, sun-dried tomatoes, white wine, and parm-reg. cheese. If you had enough money to buy those ingredients, wouldn't you rather make something that actually tastes good, and is not so fattening, what with the heavy cream and cheese?

Way to go!!!

Grown-UpTuna Noodle!

User: Samantha from Pittsburgh, PA    User Rating:
This dish uses relatively few, easily attainable, and inexpensive ingredients. I thought of it as a "grown-up" version of Tuna Noodle casserole. I think this would be elegant enough for casual company, certainly for family members. A Pinot Grigio might go nicely. It is simple and quick to prepare, and takes very little preparation ahead of time, other than chopping onions and tomatoes. Very, very tasty, my kids love it!

I sundry the tomatoes from my garden in the summer and grow my own basil so this recipe was actually very affordable for me. Made this for my husband and parents who were not at all thrilled to be having tuna casserole. They all loved it! Definitely and I repeat definitely double the sauce (wine and cream). I also used about 3/4 of a pound of noodles. From other recommendations I also added nutmeg and used just the regular white tuna in water. The stars of the show were the sun-dried tomatoes, wine, nutmeg and basil on top. It went well together! It was easy to make, took few pans and easy clean-up....what more could I ask for!

thanks to everyone's suggestions! I just made this for dinner and it was quite lovely and a big hit with my partner. but I made a few changes, bearing previous commenter's words in mind: ~ note: I halved the recipe and my amounts below reflect this ~ 1) much less olive oil (i have a non-stick pan) 2) I used albacore tuna 3) sub chicken stock (up to 1/3 cup from 1/2 cup) for white wine 4) i kept the s-d tomatoes at a 1/2 cup, since some commented that the finished dish was a little bland 5) to prevent dryness and to add a little tang, I added a splash of the tomato soaking water 6) I added the peas at the same time as the tomatoes and tuna 7) I kept 1/4 of the pasta water to add at the end in case the dish was too dry after adding the pasta 8) I had neither the basil nor the parmesan reggiano on hand; I don't think they are necessary in such a homey dish.

Made this last week, and my husband liked it so much, we had it again a few days later, this time making the entire menu. He said it reminded him of a tuna version of linguini and white clam sauce. Absolutely delicious! Yes, it does need double the sauce, but that adds virtually no extra time to speak of. Working together, we made the entire menu in about 20-25 minutes! This is very versatile, as you can use tuna, clams, salmon, scallops, shrimp... whatever you have on hand with equally great results. Super fast, super delicious and, with the entire menu coming in at just under 34% fat calories, super healthy! The only change I made was to use fat-free half and half instead of the regular heavy cream, and-- honestly-- we didn't notice any change in taste or texture at all! Thanks, Rachael!!!
