I loved this soup, however it is an incredible amount of work. I think I'd save this recipe for a special occasion, when I had plenty of time to cook.

Bland and time-consuming.

I followed the recipe to a T, with the exception that I made the broth the day before, refrigerated it, and skimmed off a lot of the fat. The brodo was sort of bland, unfortunately, after all that cooking. It looked and smelled good, but the taste did not match. As such, the soup was dull. Will not make again.

When I was fixing this recipe my wife asked me what are we having and when I told her she said it didn't sound good. Two things, 1st. I didn't know what to have with it so I just fixed a french bread sliced & toasted under the broiler so thats all we had with it. 2nd my wife and I just loved it, the flavor & taste was great,it's not a soup and not a pasta dish so if anyone has other sugestion please let me know. Great meal

Yes this did take time to make but it was worth the wait while it simmerd. my 7 year old said I should do a cooking show with this. it has a great taste

delicious and can be made easily

I used a rotisserie chicken since I was short on time. I browned the chicken quickly to warm it and for the pan drippings. I had homemade chicken stock, but added the wine and mushrooms to enhance the flavors. To give an extra little burst I also included a lemon zest and red pepper flakes - delicious and much easier than the original recipe. Would defintiely make again.

Well Worth the Time and Effort

I was very impressed with the flavors. I didnt have red wine so I used white. The taste blew me away. I cant wait to make it next time with the red wine. I feel the time and effort to a good meal is always worth it. I love to cook and always try new things. I had plenty of chicken left over which I made into chicken salad. Oh my gosh! the best I've ever made. The taste is incredable. So I got 2 meals out of this which means it didnt take all that long.

Great Flavor

I think this is a better way to make good broth - the addition of Red Wine and cut up pieces beats a boiling a whole chicken for flavor.

This was amazing! I love you Michael Chiarello! This was perfect for the first cool fall day. Cook all afternoon, and make the house smell wonderful. My husband made a fire, we cracked a bottle of red, and with crusty bread, slurped and made yummy noises.

this is an great recipe, and similar combo can be found in many cuisines. Some of the reviews did mention the fact the cooking time is bit long and consuming. I go ahead and use my pressure cooker, and the lowest pressure setting for 40 minute, and it came out just as well. Just thought it would be an easy tip.

Best chicken soup ever....

This has to be the best soup I've ever had. The broth is rich with a lovely color. It was a hit with my husband who stated, "This is a keeper!" I have made the recipe 3 times this past winter and sent it along to family...It is a bit of an all day event, but believe me it's worth the time....Enjoy...

your in it for the long run!!!

The recipe turned out well but took a very long time. The kids enjoyed the noodle/chicken combination but I would not make this again. Too much work, too little taste.

Made it again

This is the second time I made it and I also used a rotisserie chicken. The broth is the best because of all the carmelization.

A very rich broth!

I made this a few weekends ago. My family loved it but not sure I would make this again. It was a lot of work or maybe time would be a better description. The extra flavor in the stock did make a big difference and the color was richer. Many of Michael's recipes are very full of flavor. Please note, this is a more homey simple tasting dish that everyone will like but was more simple in taste than I would have expected. Noted-- my kids did eat it and loved it and since they are big non-veggie eaters, please note that the final product does not "show" any veggies which means they did welcome it and finshed it off. This may be a plus for some parents.

Awesome! Great for the Crockpot too!

After seeing the show, I knew I HAD to make this -- I'm a sucker for anything with Cappellini :-) After browning the chicken and veggies, I put it all into my 6 quart crockpot, and, per my crockpot instructions, added half the amount of water called for in the recipe. I actually think I used about 5 cups of water instead of 8.) I cooked it on low for about 7 hours, and it came out AWESOME. The only problem, which is minor, is that the chicken was so tender it completely fell off the bones. I let it cool, then picked out all the meat. One step I definitely recommend is, after straining thru the cheese cloth, use a defatting measuring cup to defat the broth, which there was quite a lot of. I also kept some the carrots, they were awesome tasting, and I couldn't throw them away. I think next time I'd also skip the parsley -- it never seems to add anything for me. My 9-year old son had step throat and a fever this week, and it's all he would eat. I think it had some medicinal qualities, because he said every time he ate it, he felt better. :-) The leftovers were great, and I had plenty of the broth to use in a few different recipes during the week. I just kept the pasta and chicken in one container, and the broth in another.

This was so very delicious. I was apprehensive about throwing the veggies away, but the broth turns out to be this fabulous, rich, delicious concotion. Never mind how long it takes to make. Isn't that just the way chicken soups go? Also, on undercooking the noodles...I thought that was just plain odd, but I followed the recipe exactly and every bite was simply perfect!!!!

ok

I followed the recipe and only ended up with 4 cups broth, so I ended up adding some canned broth. It tasted pretty good, and the color from the caramelized meat and veggies was great. The chicken was delicious, although the breast meat was a little dry.

I love this recipe! The aroma of my house is out of this world. I have been making chicken soup for years and this recipe offers a whole added dimension of flavor and aroma. The browning of the meat and vegetables prior to boiling makes a huge difference. I am used to browning meat for Italian sause, and beef soup...but have never browned chicken for soup...It is Amazing!!!

This was like Italian Ramen without the sodium. The taste was simple yet rich and satisfying. The 2-1/2 to 3 hour simmering time for the chicken and broth makes it unlikely that I would make it again.

This soup was a big hit with my family, including a very picky seven year old. It was so good I thought I would share it with some co-workers who felt the same way I did after tasting this soup. The same co-workers immediately went to the site to print this recipe not trusting me to bring copies in!

I saw this recipe on the show yesterday, and at first I didn't appreciate the concept. But as the show continued and I saw how the recipe was prepared and served, I knew I had to try it. The longest part was the almost 3 hour simmering process, but when it was done, my family and I were so delighted! My 8 year old daughter REFUSES to eat any soup what so ever, but when I served this for dinner, she not only asked me for seconds, but asked to have it tomorrow night as well! So good, worth every minute!

Wife liked it, I didn't...
