Looked good but tasted rather plain

Crowd Pleaser

I added the carmel on the middle and top layers, and then also added chocolate sauce to decorate the top. Looked and tasted wonderful!

Easy and Refreshing

User: Rebecca from Kent, OH    User Rating:
Made this for my boyfriends birthday in July. I was easy to make in my non-air conditioned kitchen and was so cold and refreshing to eat. He loved it, and so did I. I skipped simmering the caramel with the bourbon and just stirred it together, and it had a great taste.

yummy

Too much work

Too much work for something that tasted "just OK"

Seemed like a big waste of time

Not really what I expected from this show.

Hard bits
07/21/2007 at 01:05pm
User: Mike from Spring, TX    User Rating:
The chocolate chips were too hard compared to the rest of the silky texture of the caramel and ice cream. Even our children did not like the dish and said it was "too crunchy". Would try substituting slightly thicker layers of caramel and leave out the bits that were hard on the teeth and overpowered the dessert. The word 'Mud' is not the best word to use to describe this dessert.

Peanut Butter

It was pretty good but I used peanut butter icing recipe instead of caramel and I think it made it much better!!

Nothing to write home about

This pie is just not praiseworthy. Perhaps we have higher expectations. Mrs. CRT, Columbia, MD.

Great for youth church get-together

I could not find the coffee ice cream at my local store; I used a fudge ribble instead. I made 6 pies for the youth group at church and they loved them. They are so easy to make. My son requested I add a cherry to each slice. Even our 50yr. old preacher liked it.

Yummy!!

This LA Mud Pie is just wonderful - I used 1/2 coffee ice cream and 1/2 chocolate. yum!

good if you have low expectations

I made this last weekend when my in-laws came to visit. It took a lot of time but looked very nice. My father-in-law was particularly interested in the recipe. He summed it up like this: "So you put ice cream in a premade pie shell. Big deal." Good point, dad. I don't know why I expected them to be so impressed. It is was it is.

Delicious!

My eight year old daughter and I made this pie yesterday and absolutely loved it! It was easy and fun and tasted delicious!! It disappeared in less than 24 hours.

Too much work

User: Anonymous    User Rating:
Took a lot of time and the taste wasn't anything special. Much easier to buy a cake. My local grocery store makes excellent ice cream cakes. They aren't that popular in early March though. LOL

In my opinion this was way better than storebought

User: Anonymous    User Rating:
I know this because it didn't last long. I've tried buying storebought pies in the past, and I always end up throwing some of it away. This was very easy for me to make too. well worth it!

It sure doesn't taste like mud :)

Took forever to make

Took hours to make and in the end was not even as good as store-bought. Big Disappointment.

Time consuming

User: BQ from New Orleans, LA    User Rating:
Really not worth the effort. Baskin Robbins makes a much better cake and if I'm too busy to drop in, I just call my local grocery store and have them make one to order. It's much faster and the cost is about the same. It also looks much nicer which can be important for special occasions.

This Mud Pie recipe is almost as good as the one I have that take forever to make

The frozen choclate chips are waaaaay too much for this recipe. Try it without the chips and you might save a few teeth.....

For pete's sake

Add more bourbon to make this palatable. Other wise it is just another ice cream sundae n a crust.

My thoughts.

Easy to make and reminds me of our times in St Thomas, and The Chart House.

nothing more than icecream in a crust

Nothing to write home about. I thought the booze would kick it up, but alas, it was still boring

Not as good as Baskin Robbins
02/26/2006 at 03:12pm
User: Anonymous    User Rating:
Ended up being more trouble than fighting the traffic to Baskin Robbins and was just as expensive to make. And the results weren't that impressive.

haven't made this yet
02/25/2006 at 11:33am
User: ARLENE from rising sun, MD    User Rating:
but with the addition of caramel, bourbon, nuts and chocolate chips it HAS to have more flavor than both Baskin-Robbins or Carvel ice cream cakes which are just plain old ice cream and chocolate crumbs. (I've had both ) How boring!

Poor imitation of a Baskin Robbins cake
02/24/2006 at 12:25pm

About as expensive and a lot more work too.

We like Carvel better

That seems fishy to me. This pie was OK. Nothing special. Bout as good as you'd buy from an ice cream store. A 3.

Not that bad
