Not what you think

This recipe was more of a chowder than a crab soup. Even with doubling the amount of crab the recipe calls for, I found the crab got lost in all the vegies. The taste is very un-crab like. I'm not sure what award it won, but it doe NOT deserve to be called a Maryland Crab Soup.

Did not use so many veges as they took away from the crab taste. Added okra, corn, celery, and carrots. Otherise followed the recipe and the soup was about as good as it gets. Finally found a healthy crab soup.

MD Crab Soup

This is a pretty standard recipe. However, it should be noted to clean and remove the lungs of the crabs before placing them in the soup as the lungs can make you sick. For the uninitiated, Paula should have noted this instead of merely cutting them in half. The recipe stated "cleaned and rinsed" but didn't really state to remove the lungs.

I made this recipe twice and it was excellent both times. I enjoy recipes that you can depend on each time you make them and this was consistently tasty.

Being from Maryland this soup has way too many vegetables ---- cut down on the portions and when soup is completed you won't need more liquid...otherwise soup is very tasty....D

This soup was fun & easy to make with my young daughter (though crabs DO take awhile to dress - I steamed the crabs the night before) & came out terrific.

Crabby and not too spicy

Wonderful. The only thing I did different was I used Seafood stock instead of all water. I also didn't add the cabbage(Personal preference) It was better than any Md. Crab soup I have ever had.

I'm from Maryland and I have never found a recipe for crab soup better than this one! It's a hit everytime we make it. My husband would love to claim it as his own - but he always remembers to thank Wayne out loud whenever he makes it!

Little Twist

So I was looking for a good base Maryland crab soup recipe and this is perfect. I've recently gotten into cooking (mostly grilling) as a hobby after graduating college and I have begun to idolize Bobby Flay. I used everything in the recipe (except whole crabs...it's winter, and out of season) but added a few things. I like a lot of spices and spicy foods, so I doubled the Old Bay and hot sauce (Tabasco), added three garlic cloves, a finely chopped habanero pepper (for heat as Bobby Flay says), and 2 tablespoons of Wild Turkey bourbon (personal touch I add to most foods). I took it to work at Johns Hopkins for soup day and everyone loved it. It is great, but be warned, it is very spicy if you don't like spicy foods.

Crab soup modified slightly

User: RUSSELL from Tulsa, OK    User Rating:
We don't get a lot of fresh crab in Tulsa so I used the juice of one can of crab claws and refrigerated crab meat. I also added a pound of shrimp since my wife is not a big crab fan. To simplify I used can chicken and beef broth (carb free) and frozen veggies but knew it all worked when my wife said "this is great" as she headed for seconds.

What an excellent blend of flavors at an affordable price! I made this for my family gathering (Good Friday) and I received so many great compliments! I had never cooked with crab before, but I've made this recipe a "regular" (almost better than fried green tomatoes!) Thanks to Wayne and Paula for this creative, festive, delicious dish!

Fantastic Crab Soup!!

I followed the recipe almost to the letter (I bumped up the Old Bay, Hot Sauce & Pepper a bit!) and it came out perfect! Be sure to let it sit a day or two in the fridge to let flavors blend to perfection!

YUMMY!!!

This soup was really easy to make and so full of flavor. I halved the recipe and it still made plenty. The flavor is in the broth...the base is so good and versatile, you can alter the veggies and use any kind of seafood (shrimp, fish) and it is still delicious!
