Can't taste the cedar 12/15/2005 at 03:30pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I have tried planking salmon several times using the oven and can't seem to obtain the cedar taste people rave about. I haven't had a chance to try on the BBQ but maybe that will be better. Makes a great presentation! I mis-read the recipe and kept the oven dial on Broil and my plank caught on fire after 10 minutes! It isn't clear that after initially broiling the plank that you turn the knob back to Bake. Crowd Pleaser Salmon 12/07/2006 at 03:44pm User: Michael from Hingham, MA User Rating: First of all, this recipie turns into a mouth watering delight. It is delicious! It is also easy to prepare and take very little time. Everyone in my family loved it. I prepared it on my Big Green Egg Smoker/Grill which I believed enhanced the flavor even more. This is a winner! Yummy Salmon 12/02/2006 at 03:07pm User: Anonymous User Rating: My husband and I really enjoyed this recipe for salmon. I will make this again. whoa nelly! this is AWESOME! 11/13/2007 at 04:22pm User: Anonymous User Rating: michael's recipe is FAN-freaking-tastic! it's an incredible way to serve salmon and won rave reviews from all at my party. even doctored it up a bit the last time -- ran out of honey, so substituted the little bit i had, plus brown sugar and a little worcestershire sauce, nixed the plank in favor of an hour marinate in the 'fridge and slapped my big 'ol salmon filet on the grill...it was reeeeeeeeeeeeeally good! a definite keeper! thanks!!! Simple and yet delicious! 10/22/2006 at 07:59pm User: Angela from Scotts Valley, CA User Rating: My husband and I enjoyed this recipe at sunset on our front deck with a good bottle of white wine. I was amazed at how much we loved the salmon and how very simple it was for me to make! I usually drench my salmon with lemon to avoid any fish taste, not being a big fan of seafood, but the glaze for this recipe was perfect and tasted great! Thank you Michael!! Awesome over and over again 10/22/2005 at 11:02pm User: Sharma from Draper, UT User Rating: My family and I have made this for baby blessings, formal birthday parties, and showers of all kinds, not to mention regular dinner. It is so easy, with an impressive finish. Everyone always raves about this dish and when we don't serve it at parties people ask about it. Just great! Melt in your Mouth Yummy! 10/10/2006 at 10:09am User: Faith from Belleville, MI User Rating: I love Salmon and this recipe really was great. Not too much fuss and wonderful melt in your mouth flavor. I wish I could do the plank cooking more often but because it cost me $10 in addition to the Salmon I won't. Still a nice recipe when you want a special dinner. delish! 10/03/2006 at 02:28pm User: Sarah from Charleston, SC User Rating: absolutely tasty and elegant, but oh so easy! Even my boyfriend who is no fan of salmon liked this! Soooo Good!! 10/02/2006 at 08:02pm User: ROBIN from Lafayette Hill, PA User Rating: Very tasty and easy to make. I used a very concentrated Balsamic Vinagar and this combined with the honey was fantastic. Will make many times in the future. Thanks. (PS: only used one teaspoon not a tablespoon of salt) Absolutely Fabulous 09/29/2005 at 09:59pm User: CAROLYN from Oklahoma City, OK User Rating: I've made this for 20 people now - they have all loved it! It is very quick, very fancy, very tasty! It is great for the low carb, no gluten, and all around want to eat better individual. My husband doesn't like salmon and loved this - "The best salmon I've ever had." I served it with Wolfgang Puck's Pumpkin risotto and a spinach salad. So tasty! Amazing 09/03/2006 at 04:47pm User: Anonymous User Rating: My husband doesn't like Salmon unless its cooked like this. We usually grill ours and it comes out just amazing!! Awesome! 08/27/2005 at 10:49pm User: DEANNA from Columbus, GA User Rating: This is absolutely delicious. We do not use the plank. We jsut put it on a cookie sheet in the oven. I'm sure the fish on the plank would be even better! Excellent 08/23/2006 at 07:28pm User: LORI from Detroit, MI User Rating: The combination of flavors in this recipe is terrific. It's extremely simple to prepare, too. I didn't use the cedar planking method, instead opting to bake in the oven on a sheet pan. I imagine it is even better planked. This one is a keeper. very good 08/20/2005 at 09:17pm User: Anonymous User Rating: easy, watch the salt though Fantastic! 08/09/2007 at 08:13pm User: Toni from Novi, MI User Rating: This salmon is fantastic! I am not a fan of the fish, and my husband doesn't like it all -- except since I started preparing it this way. I am grateful for the tip about the plank -- I purchased an untreated plank at the hardware and had them cut it to size. I managed to get at least planks for $7. I even gave this recipe out with a plank for a shower favor to a new bride! Served 60 for my son's wedding! 08/06/2006 at 03:55pm User: Karen from Yorba Linda, CA User Rating: Rave reviews -- guests commented on the salmon over everything else and some of them were real Seattle experts on plank salmon. This was easy and nice to be able to prepare ahead of time. We seasoned the plank with the salt and rub spices and then used the honey balsamic glaze as basting. We kept it in the oven just until the top of the salmos carmelized. Thank you so much Michael! Couldn't tast the marinade 08/04/2007 at 03:17pm User: Matt from Bremen, IN User Rating: I am a bit of a salmon finatic. I would say there are 30 - 40 salmon recipes that I would make again before this one. I could barely taste the marinade and the cedar plank taste overwhelmed the taste of the fish and marinade. I would suggest trying an alternate recipe. This one was easy, though. SUPER AND EASY GRILLIN! 08/04/2005 at 04:54pm User: ELIZABETH from DALLAS, TX User Rating: This recipe was a hit at our last cookout. We were a little skeptical at first since the wood didn't really have a smell to it and there was what seemed to be a lot of balsamic vinegar. but heh, if this was good enough for someone to cater their own wedding we figured it would be good enough for us. Just wait until the flames hit the planks! The smell is pure heaven! Modifications: we soaked the planks overnight and did it all out on the grill. Don't go for 20 minutes for medium. It will be overdone. Try coupling with bacon wrapped asparagus also cooked on the grill and you are good to go. Very nice 07/29/2006 at 10:50am User: Tony from Surf City, NC User Rating: Baked this about 2 weeks ago. Very simple and very tasty. Will be using it again in the future. The best! 07/19/2007 at 11:07pm User: Yvonne from Dallas, TX User Rating: I also prepared on the grill - fantastic! Ed 06/28/2007 at 05:20pm User: EDWIN from Plantation, FL User Rating: Absolutely delicious. Soak the plank overnite as directed won't smoke as much. Used wild sockeye salmon. Wish I could rate it with 6 stars! 06/24/2006 at 01:33am User: Melody from Ketchikan, AK User Rating: Excellent dish. I cooked this outdoors on my barbeque in some heavy duty foil. SO good! Great 06/15/2006 at 07:21pm User: Lionel from Brooklyn, NY User Rating: Mike has done it again. only reason why i didn't give this recipe a perfect score is because of the fact that an inexperienced chef such as myself, was able to prepare it. Easy and awesome! 06/14/2006 at 05:05pm User: Anonymous User Rating: Made this last night for three friends. First time I've "planked" anything. Got untreated cedar from Home Depot. Put the grill on high and placed the plank "good" side down for a few minutes. Then brushed the "good" side with olive oil and put on the salmon. Turned heat on grill to medium. About 15 minutes later we were eating and my friends were raving! Excellent 06/10/2006 at 09:04pm User: SALLY from Zelienople, PA User Rating: This recipe was simply stated, easy to follow and retruned delicious results. This is a keeper! Terrific recipe 06/05/2006 at 12:13pm User: DAWN from kingsford, MI User Rating: This recipe was terrific. My husband is not a salmon fan but he raved about this one. My picky kids even loved it. Super Salmon 05/29/2006 at 07:28pm User: VALERIE from Souderton, PA User Rating: Ok, so I printed this recipe a year ago and have finally tried it. Surprised at the "4 star" rating. I found it excellent although I used a grill instead of the oven. The cedar plank imparted delicious flavor and the balsamic vinegar and honey carmelized the salmon to perfection! Awesome recipe....thank you! Experience 05/17/2007 at 10:54am User: Loren from Magalia, CA User Rating: This is a fantastic recipe, the flavor of the salmon is complimented by the glaze, not overpowered by the glaze. Delicious! 05/16/2005 at 07:48pm User: DEBORAH from Miami, FL User Rating: Sweet and tangy, a bit messy to make, but worth it. Keep this Recipe! 05/14/2007 at 08:54pm User: Stephanie from Sacramento, CA User Rating: I prepared this for Mother's Day dinner and received rave reviews. My dad who doesn't care much for salmon...loved it! Definitely one that I like a lot. 05/04/2005 at 06:59pm User: Paul from Los Angeles, CA User Rating: This dish is really easy entertaining. I love Mr. Chiarello's recipes and they are so impressive for entertaining. Presenting this fish on the charred plank with its beautiful flavors and juices made my brother and sister really enjoy the salmon. Thanks so much. And I didn't quite understand the confusion that the other commentor stated. It is a very straight-forward recipe. And if I may add, I only had a skinned salmon side (2.6 lb) and it didn't really cause a sticking problem at all. I just made sure to oil the plank really nicely so that the flesh wouldn't stick to the plank. Grazie Signore Chiarello. Cedar Planks 04/30/2005 at 05:23pm User: SHARON from Newark, DE User Rating: William-Sonoma now has them available for spring. They are around $15 each Excellent Dish! 04/28/2005 at 08:37pm User: SHANNON from Long Beach, CA User Rating: Unable to find the Ceder plank...I went ahead with this dish anyway. It turned out great. My family loved it, and have asked me to repeat it. Also, it couldn't be easier to make. Try it...you'll like it! Wow! Easy and good, too!!! 04/21/2005 at 05:45pm User: Sherry from Boylston, MA User Rating: This dish was fabulous! Rather than cooking this in the broiler, I put it on the grill. Cooked it for about 18 min. and it was just perfect! Moist and flavorful. My husband wants it again! WONDERFUL 04/16/2007 at 01:29pm User: Melissa from Reston, VA User Rating: I didnt have the cedar planks b/c i Forgot to buy the night before but it stilled turned out wonderful. I also didnt have a BRUSH to put on the juice but that turned out great too. I would actually recommended trying to cook ALL of the sauce b/c there was a LOT leftover that I threw away. And when you re-heat the salmon, you NEED the sauce. I definetly want to try the cedar planks next time and bake all the sauce. ALSO, my huge salmon DIDN"T have skin on the bottom but like i said STILL GREAT :) Great Crowd Pleaser 04/06/2006 at 08:53pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I made this on the BBQ for 45 people at my husbands 40th birthday party. It was a hugh hit. Very flavorful, smoked salmon. Disappointing Flavor 03/28/2005 at 02:02pm User: Anonymous User Rating: I found steps in this recipe confusing and did not provide enough information to prepare easily. Very messy process and after all the work the flavor was not there. I have prepared many grilled salmon recipes and this one did not measure up to my families expectations. Suggest losing the planks and grilling the salmon outdoors or even on the Foreman marinating and basting with a Teriyaki Sesame sauce. Easy and Yummy even without the planks! 03/18/2008 at 08:23pm User: Stephanie from Virginia beach, VA User Rating: I have made this recipe twice now. We haven't used the planks either time, but I don't think it even mattered! It was so quick and easy! I recommend this very much! excellent 02/23/2008 at 07:31pm User: judee from carmel, NY User Rating: I made the salmon for dinner last night and it was delicious. I didn't use the planks since I didn't have them, I baked the salmon in the over for about 20 minutes and broiled it for about 5 minutes to get the top browned. I don't usually eat fish but that didn't taste like fish. IT WAS DELICIOUS AND EASY TO MAKE! Yum! 02/22/2007 at 08:51pm User: Deona from Reno, NV User Rating: Everyone I make this for wants the recipe! MMM 01/31/2006 at 04:57pm User: Anonymous User Rating: IT WAS REALLY GOOD! Planked Salmon with Honey-Balsamic Glaze 01/15/2007 at 07:59pm User: BOB from Merritt Island, FL User Rating: Excellent! I made a two pound salmon fillet cut into two inch pieces and reassembled it. Even cutting the glaze recipe in half made two much. 10 minutes for the final bake was just right. This is a keeper! |
