This recipe is so delicious. My bird took double the time to cook, but well worth the wait. I used dried herbs instead of fresh as that is what was on hand and it turned out superbly.

I roasted two chickens at once using this recipe. It was delicious, especially the sauce. I couldn't get all of the stuffing ingredients in the cavity, but just placed the excess around the chicken. To get extra liquid for my sauce, I squeezed the orange wedges. I served this with a spinach salad with a simple lemon, garlic vinaigrette along with a toasted orzo side dish with kalamata olives and lemon. We drank a wine called "Red" 2003 by St. Francis Winery in Sonoma County. It went perfectly with the chicken.

I was hesitant to try this recipe because it looked too elaborate. I have to admit it was delicious! The gravy was so good - make mashed potatoes to go with the chicken and you won't be sorry!

This is the only roast chicken recipe I've made. It tastes great every time I make it. One of my favorites. A few things I do differently are I only use chicken breasts, I use dried herbs, and skip the bacon. These changes are usually do to convenience.

I used this recipe on a 17 lb turkey. I had to add more bacon strips of course and I then covered it with cheese cloth. I also stuffed the cavity with a whole head of garlic, sliced and extra herbs. It took 4 hrs to cook, but my husband and I thought it was the best turkey we'd ever had. We absolutely loved the gravy and neither one of us usually likes gravy.

In my search for the perfect roast chicken, I cooked this one as well as one from Emeril's show. This one was not only easier to make, it tasted so much better! It was so flavorful! While it is somewhat difficult to shove all of the stuff indicated in the cavity of the chicken, it worked fine and the various flavors made the gravy out of this world!

I usually like Tyler's recipes, but this one I thought was just ok. I had a hard time fitting all of the items into the cavity of the chicken. I also felt that the herbs were a little overpowering and would use less bacon next time.

I would have rated this a 5 start, but the time for the recipe is way off! Good thing I started this for an early dinner; it turned out to be not so early. This took almost twice the stated time, probably because of the packed cavity. This is the first recipe of Tyler's I have ever had trouble with.

I was a bit nervous making this, because I had never made a roast chicken before. It was delicious!! I didn't get much gravy from it though, it was pretty much all bacon fat, no good drippings. But we used a bit and made our own gravy with some chicken stock. I will definitely make this again!

Wow. I always dry out roasted chickens but this one was great. Be very careful with the cooking time with all that stuff crammed in the chicken. When I took the orange and onion out, the inside still looked raw so I had to cook it longer. Best to cut the stuff into smaller pieces and make sure it's not packed too tightly. The gravy was wonderful. I roasted some chunked sweet potatoes and apples in the pan with the chicken and let them finish cooking in the gravy. Will definitely make this again.

I remembered watching Tyler cook this on his show and decided to try it. My husband and I thought it was the best roast chicken I ever made. It turned out tender and juicy. I had a 7 lb roaster chicken and cooked it at 425 for 1/2 hour then turned it down to 375 and cooked it for 2 more hours until the pop up timer went off. I will definitely be making this again!

This came out so nicely, you won't get a jucier more moist chicken. The gravy came out well too, the orange adds that extra hint of something. The ingredients sounded great, and I followed the directions exactly. However, after almost 1 1/2 hours my chicken was not cooked. I ended up slicing up the uncooked meat and finishing in the microwave. Lets just say the finished producted ended up in the garbage can, and I was very frustrated.

It was my first time to cook roast chicken and this recipe turned out great! I marinated the chicken with the juice of half an orange and rubbed oyster sauce all over its skin, then left it for a couple of hours before roasting. The chicken was wonderful and oh so juicy, not at all dry. My family loved it! Definitely a keeper!

This is one fantastic chicken! I used dried oregano (less of it of course) and it worked fine. Keep in mind its going to take quite a bit longer than 50 minutes for this chicken to be done, mine was at about 1 1/2 hours. Also I didnt do the gravy but did drain the fat and use the drippings in a gravy mix (sorry...I think its way easier and we like it, lol) and it was excellent. Thank you...I will use this method again and again!

We LOVED this chicken! Easy to make, great gravy and super moist and juicy meat. I'm just wondering what kind of super ovens are used at the Food Network because there is no way to cook a 5.5 lb bird in only 50 minutes. Mine took about an hour and a half....so factor in extra time when cooking or you'll be having dinner pretty late. I'll be making this recipe many more times!

Some recipes that use bacon tend to be over powered with the taste of bacon. Tyler?s roast chicken, however, is excellent. The chicken came out moist and flavorful, and the herbs came through nicely. This is a meal that I wouldn?t mind serving the in-laws.

the chicken turned out SO moist and yummy. the combination of flavors worked really well, and the chicken was great the next day (made chicken pot pie). however, it was a lot of work and really messy with the herb butter and trying to rub it all over the chicken (and under the skin). all in all, very tasty, but make sure you have enough time and lots of dish soap for your hands afterwards. also, the onions on the bottom of the pan were completely burnt for the lack of liquid in the pan, so i had to fish them out before i made the gravy.

While the chicken is roasting the aroma is absolutely devine. Fitting everything into the cavity was a bit tight so I put half of the orange in the pan with the onion. The chicken roasted perfectly, the skin was a nice golden color. The meat was juicy and tender. I didn't have Sherry so I used Madeira. The gravy was a perfect complement. Yum.

This recipe was very good, though next time I won't put the bacon right on top of the chicken. I think I'll cook it separately and add the drippings to my roasting pan drippings at the end. The reason for this suggestion is that the bacon splattered grease all over my oven and it really smoked up my kitchen. I had to open up all the windows (in February--in Massachusetts!) and remove the battery from my smoke alarm. Other than that, the recipe is great.

I made exactly as stated and I watched the show, but my chicken (4 LBS) needed to cook 2 hrs to be done, I had to tent it with foil after 45 minutes because the skin was getting too brown, then after 2 hours the onion was over carmelized and burn to the bottom of my non-stick roasting pan, I had to soak the pan overnight to clean it!!!. I didn't think the chicken had any of the flavors it was stuffed with, it just tasted like a roasted chicken. I'm sticking with Michael Chiarello's Lemon and Rosemary chicken, it is way better.

I did have a problem stuffing everything inside the cavity of my 5 1/2 lb. chicken and the cooking time. I think there was too much inside the chicken and it was pink inside although the outside was cooked. After all that, the chicken and the gravy were wonderful! Worth the extra time.

Easy to make and the smell will drive you crazy. Remember to baste the chicken as all the flavor is in the juice. I sliced the chicken after it sat for a few minutes and poured the juice over, it was yummy.

I've made this chicken twice and it's excellent. Both times the butter/herbs didn't stick as well to the outside of the chicken as I'd hoped because of the moisture, so next time I'll try patting the bird dry first. I tried cutting the orange and onion in quarters to get them into the cavity more easily, then used a skewer and twine to truss the chicken as best as possible. Makes great leftovers and stock too.

I can say without question, this is the best roast chicken I have ever eaten or prepared. Admittedly, as I slathered the bird with the herbed butter I was thinking rather negative thoughts about mess vs end result, but I'm glad I stuck with it. The gravy is to die for! As others have said, it's a bit difficult to wedge all of the ingredients into the bird's cavity, but with persistence and a good knife, it is doable. Truly delicious. A keeper, for sure.

This is a fantastic recipe. I didn't have the thyme or Oregano and just added other fresh herbs I had on hand. The chicken is amazing with a subtle hint of citrus but the gravy is out of this world.

This was delicious, but I did not thicken the sauce with flour (carbs) instead I just reduced the sauce and enriched with a bit of butter. The cooking time of 50 min. is not long enough.

This chicken came out totally succulent. I didn't have string to tie the chicken legs together; so, I used a skewer through both legs to keep the onions and oranges from falling out. It was a great recipe to try out my new radio thermometer out with too.
