Substituted half a pound or two links of hot Italian Sausage, dark red kidney beans and it was great for a cold winter day. Very hearty and filling.

This cassoulet knock-off is a filling, warming dish for those cold, gray days. I have tried a couple of much longer cooking versions, and Rachael's thirty minute dish gives you just about as much flavor with much less effort.

easiest version of cassoulet ever!!

i have been making this dish for probably 2 years now, and my husband asks for it all the time. i add more vegis to make a bigger pot - it is even better the second day. if you don't have all day to be making cassoulet like i don't, then this is a worthy, delicious and speedy alternative on a cold day.

good flavor but odd consistency

The dish was simple to prepare and had a good flavor but it has a very strange consistency.

This was a great recipe. Everyone in my family ate it. I didn't have to cook five different meals. I did cook it for a while longer to cook down the tomatoes and it was great.

Surprisingly Good

This was not bad at all, my son who is a picky eater went back for more! Makes a great winter meal for those cold nights! I do agree with another review if you do have time to let it simmer a little longer the flavors realy come together.

This is the best recipe! It resembles a cassoulet, but much easier, and it has a ton of flavor!!! I only used chicken and sausage, and substituted pancetta for the bacon as I had it in the fridge. As usual, with Rachael's recipes, it can be done in a short amount of time, but I think this did benefit from a longer simmering time, if you have it! This is a dish that was devoured and we can't wait to make it again! Go make this recipe now!

This is a very hearty and tasty dish. It didn't take much time to put together. I put the carrot, celery, onion and garlic in the food processor which for me was quicker. A good tip for cutting up the meat is to slightly freeze it. Also I use scissors to cut the bacon. Absolutely wonderful and don't forget a loaf of good quality french baguette

Gets better every time I make it.

I made this again last night and I like it more each time I make it. I do doctor it up with a few more spices and, of course, more garlic. I serve it to my husband over pasta and he just loves it. Thank you Rachel! YUMMO!

I work as a sorority house chef and I have a hard time getting the girls to eat dishes other than "mac and cheese" and "pasta w/ marinara". This meal helped me develop thier palates so they will be more inclined to eat food with a grown-up flavor, while sticking to the comfort food feel. (they have a strange fear of pork)--now that I have earned their trust, maybe I can get them to eat salmon, ya think?

Made this a few minutes ago. Did not take much longer than 30 minutes. I used Farmer John precooked hot Cajun smoked sausage and chicken. Also added some hot crushed red peppers - love spicy food. It spiced it up a bit but not too much to take away from the original recipe but added a little zip to it. Also added a can of mild green chiles. Next time may add a red bell pepper for additional flavor and color. Over all, very good one pot meal.

It's so nice to be able to use items I normally keep around the house and combine them into a wonderful new meal. This meal I made on a Saturday afternoon which makes a great lunch and did not take much time at all.

Watched Rachael make this one and had to try it. It smelled a little strange after I poured in the white wine and I was a little worried, but it tasted fantastic! What a great filling meal! My husband loved it and he hates stews. He loved eating the other half of the baguette of bread I used for the breadcrumbs! :)

I love this recipe! I made a big mistake and added 1 pound of bacon instead of a strip. You can say that the bacon added even more flavor to this already dynamite dish.

We can't get enough of this "faux" cassoulet. It's been our favorite cold weather recipe this season, warming and comforting.

Tastes like a much more advanced recipe

I have made this many times as part of our "once-a-month cooking" (which is really done every eight weeks or so). I call it cassoulet, and it really does taste just as good as French cassoulet recipes with lots of steps and much longer cooking times. It probably does benefit from "aging" a bit - whether that's on the stove, in the fridge or in the freezer as in our case. I find the quantities are enormous -- we double the recipe and it seems to make 10-12 servings. I do think there is too much meat in ratio to the beans/veg, but that is just my opinion. Next time I make it I shall add an extra can of beans and an extra can of tomatoes. We use all kinds of beans, whatever is on hand. A mix of cannellini, flageolet and borlotti is perfe. It's a gorgeous but easy recipe-- hope you like it.

Loved it... loved it ... loved it!!! Perfect meal for cold dreay winter day. Served bread on the side instead of it the cassoulet - made it easier to eat. Family and guest all wanted seconds and this was a tough crowd. Made mine is 3o minutes but let it sit and simmer for another hour before serving to marry all the flavors.

Thanks Rach!

I discovered this recipe in her cookbook about a year ago (that one had chicken breasts instead of pork chops) and I enjoyed it. So I thought; if this 30 minute meal is this good, then the real thing has to be even better. So for a dinner party, I found a very involved complicated recipe with duck confit and rabbit as well as several other meats and ingrediants. I spent twice as much, worked all day (literally started it in the morning to serve it at night) and in the end I'd wished that I had used Rachel's recipe instead. It tasted much better! I have made this several times and even doubled the recipe to keep portions in the freezer. Thanks Rach! This one is awesome!

This is a great alternative to chili or spaghetti on a cold fall night in Milwaukee WI. If you are picky about meat eating this is not the dish for you. I found it easy to prepare and delicious. I think next time I make it I'll try lamb stew meat instead of pork.

Wow, just finished making this dish, and am eating it as I type this review. This was very easy to make and the flavors rock! You can taste every morsel still w/out one competing against the other. Goes great with bread or even rice! Thanks Rachel for another great meal for under 1 hour!!!

I believe it takes a special talent to cook and know what flavors that go with what your cooking. But I am telling you that this is a great meal and have nothing negative to say. And you did a great Job Rachel!! I never watch cooking shows and when you said 30 minutes I was intrigued. It took only 30 minutes. When it was done I enjoyed myself a meal. It was so great I drove some to my mother's house and she enjoyed it very much. Thanks so much for an easy and simple meal. Wendy Rancho Cordova, Ca.

At first I thought this recipe would be too filling however I knew that my husband along with my two boys would love all the meat in this stew... so I decided to try it. It was absolutely delicious! There was indeed a lot of meat but the flavors were intense but light. I loved this recipe and would make it often! Thanks Rachel.

INCREDIBLE!!!

This is absolutely the best one pot meal we've ever eaten! The taste is fabulous. I am a pretty experienced cook and was not able to cook this in 30 minutes besides which I had several mishaps trying to juggle the broiling of the sausages and the rest of it. Next time I will put the sausages on, chop the veggies, and THEN start the bacon frying. This is going to be made at our house VERY often! Thanks to Rachael for a terrific recipe!

This was a great success with the entire family--even the pickiest eaters! Once everything is cut up, the dish goes quickly. I found the flavors were enhanced by placing the prepared stew in a crockpot for several hours. Great for parties the cook wants to enjoy!
