Watermelon juice dripping down your chin is a sure sign that summer has arrived. Although it's most often enjoyed on its own for its unique, sweet taste, watermelon can be added to salads (savory and sweet alike) or it can be blended or pureed for drinks - even the rind makes a popular pickle. You want to look for a melon that is yellowish on the underside with a dried out stem; a missing stem may indicate that it was picked too late and a green stem indicates it's probably under ripe. Cut watermelon should be a vibrant color with as little white as possible.
